TOPIC: The Designated Persons Indoor Air Quality Training Course

DATE: January 31, 2008

LOCATION: The Anthony “Tony” Canale Training Academy

The revised PEOSH Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Standard requires employers to prepare and maintain a site-specific written IAQ Program and to conduct training for the “Designated Person,” as outlined in the standard. This training workshop is designed to assist “designated persons” in understanding the new standard and putting your plan in place. The workshop will be presented by a representative from PEOSH. The target audience for this workshop is the Safety Coordinator, the DPW superintendent or other person who will be responsible for implementing the standard in your municipality.


TOPIC: Safety Coordinator’s Round Table

DATE: February 14, 2008.

LOCATION: Merighi’s Savoy Inn, Vineland

The 2008 Round Table meeting will be held immediately following the Annual Safety Kick-Off Breakfast. This program has been an effective means to foster communication among Safety Coordinators and the Safety Director's office. We will discuss the 2008 loss control service plan and review the Safety Incentive Program. The revised Safety Coordinator’s Handbook will be distributed and we will leave time for discussion of other topics of interest to the participants.


TOPIC: Tips and Tools for Training Seasonal Employees

DATE: May 14, 2008

LOCATION: Ocean City Public Works Building

Many of our WC and GL claims are related to seasonal operations, and this program will provide an opportunity to share best practices for training part time and seasonal workers. Shared information will include training materials, such as videos, employee handbooks, and other aids to help with the orientation of seasonal workers. Target audience for this session will be Safety Coordinators and supervisors who oversee affected departments.


TOPIC: Police Chief’s Round Table

DATE: June 10, 2008

LOCATION: The Anthony “Tony” Canale Training Academy

Recognizing the huge impact that law enforcement activities have on municipal safety program results, we will again provide this opportunity for the Chiefs of Police to discuss ways to integrate the JIF safety program into Police Department operations. We will develop a meaningful agenda based on suggestions and in-put from the Police Ad Hoc Committee.


TOPIC: Lifeguard Symposium

DATE: July 8, 2008

LOCATION: Ocean City (Location to be announced)

The Lifeguard Symposium will provide an opportunity for Lifeguard Chiefs to exchange information on Workers Compensation and General Liability issues related to their operations. Guest speakers and presenters will make this an interesting morning.


TOPIC: Public Work’s Superintendents’ Round Table

DATE: September 17, 2008

LOCATION: Anthony “Tony” Canale Training Academy

The purpose of the Round Table is to get DPW Superintendents more engaged in the safety programs, especially in the area of Job Site Observations, hazard inspections and training. We will use this opportunity for an information and idea exchange among Superintendents.
